The Spirited Wonders Of Art Homecoming And Hogwarts

null

The magical month of October is here and it’s jam-packed with amazing events, such as the Strange, Unusual and Supernatural art exhibition, the traditional Homecoming festivities and the Third Annual Hogwarts Halloween!

The month kicked off with the Opening Reception for the Strange, Unusual and Supernatural art exhibition held in the LBJ Student Center. Artists were awarded certificates during the reception, and cash prizes were presented to works selected in the categories of Most Original, Best Use of Theme and Best in Show. This spirited artwork can be found on the third floor of the LBJ Student Center until November 15.

Of course, the art isn’t the only thing spirited on campus this month. It’s Homecoming Week after all! Homecoming is the University's longest-running annual tradition that brings the community together to celebrate Bobcat pride and spirit. This year’s Homecoming is full of exciting activities, ranging from a spirit rally and taco throwdown, to a talent show and soap box derby! All of these fantastic festivities lead up to a Saturday game at Bobcat Stadium on October 27 in which our football team will battle against New Mexico State University.

Following Homecoming Week, Hogwarts Halloween arrives to close out the month of October in truly enchanted fashion. This year marks the event’s third year and it’s sure to be the best one yet. The experience invites students to travel to the magical world of Harry Potter to join their favorite characters in food and fun. Enjoy treats, such as Butterbeer, Chocolate Frogs, Golden Snitches and Fizzing Wizzbees; Take part in the Triwizard Tournament’s Dragon Egg Toss, Harry Potter trivia contest and Quidditch foosball competition; craft your own wand, brew a potion, have your future divined, watch an owl show, or spend some time hunting down the Horcrux with your friends.

The event helps support the Hays County Women’s Shelter through Dobby’s Sock Drive and sock donations are accepted October 1 through 29. Socks are the shelter’s most needed donation, and like Dobby a sock could mean the world. Hogwarts Halloween is held in the LBJ Student Center Ballroom, Monday, October 29th from 10am to 2pm, and is free for Texas State students. For more information on the event or how to donate, please contact LBJSC Conference Services at 512.245.2264 or lbjscreservations@txstate.edu

October is a magical time and all of these events are either currently underway or soon appearing, so be sure to show your Bobcat spirit by taking part!
