A Semester In Review

LBJ Student Center

As 2017 comes to a close, we want to take a glance back at all the amazing events and memorable moments that have happened at the LBJSC in 2017. The LBJ Student Center is the hub for student involvement opportunities at Texas State, so it’s no surprise that over thousands of Bobcats walk through our doors each day! This year has been full of many successes for the Student Center as we continue to grow in both size and student involvement over the past 19 years (LBJSC turns 20 years old next year!).

To date, Bobcat Build was able to recruit a record high number of volunteers and job sites to complete various service projects throughout the San Marcos community. Not only has participation in Bobcat Build increased, but Dean List attendees has also climbed significantly leading to the largest reception attendance we’ve ever had!

The LBJ Student Center has also hosted many exciting events throughout the year, such as Weeks of Welcome, Homecoming and Hogwart’s Halloween. If you are not familiar with Weeks of Welcome (WOW), it is two weeks full of events and opportunities for new and returning students to become familiar or reacquainted with the Texas State campus, fellow Bobcats and the San Marcos community. WOW is known for its annual Wow-a-Palooza event hosted by the LBJSC, which includes free snacks, games and fun activities for all students. We had an awesome turnout this year and were so glad to get students excited for the school semester. This year LBJSC also hosted the second annual Hogwart’s Halloween event! It included a live owl experience, Quidditch tournaments by Texas State’s award winning team, wand making and more! Both staff and students flocked to the ballroom to immerse themselves in this magical experience.

In addition to these fun events, SACA’s fun-packed homecoming week featured a lineup of events that united students, alumni, faculty and staff to participate in exciting activities, that ranged from a talent show to the 50th annual soap box derby. Along with awesome events and involvement opportunities, the Student Center also houses two very important programs for incoming Bobcats. Cat Camp and Bobcat Preview. These programs provide incoming freshman with the skills and knowledge on how to navigate through their first year of college. Overall, each of these events and programs serve to provide support and involvement for student life here at Texas State. Of course, none of this would be possible without our wonderful teams in Conference Services and Building Operation’s who help to coordinate these events, as well as all of our amazing departments in the LBJ Student Center! We are excited to see what this next year has in store!
