Celebrate Your Successes With LBJ Student Center

Register for Bobcat Build

After months of working on assignments, tuning in for Zoom calls, and studying for tests, the school year is finally over, Bobcats! This semester came with a lot of challenges and changes that you have overcome as a student, and it’s important to celebrate your successes (no matter how small or large). LBJSC wants to share how you can do just that! We’ve gathered up some upcoming events to attend that can help you end this school year with a bang.

The 3rd annual Gaillardia Fest is one of Texas State’s most exciting events of the year and the best part is that it’s free to attend with a valid student ID! On Friday, starting at 6 p.m. on April 30th, you can head over to the west campus field and enjoy a range of fun activities with your friends. With a live DJ, mini golf, ziplining, and a black out maze, it’s safe to say you don’t want to miss out. This event is promoting masks and social distancing that will help keep Bobcats safe regardless of your vaccination status. Gaillardia Fest is an exciting tradition that originated with Riverfest, a festival that was held in San Marcos for 16 years. Now that it’s taking place on campus, it’s more accessible for all students to attend and have a great time. Register for your free ticket today!

Bobcat Build is another amazing experience that is returning this year for Texas State students to enjoy. This event takes all year to plan and coordinate and encourages students to get hands-on in the San Marcos community to give back to those in need. After registration, you will be given information about your jobsite that you and your group will report to and begin doing volunteer work. This could include anything from landscaping to clean-up and is completed with help from everyone on your team. It is an incredibly rewarding experience to see how Bobcats are changing lives and enriching the community each year, all while being COVID-safe. Registration closes on April 25th and is open to all students looking to make a change in the lives of San Marcos families and locals. For more information on what to wear and bring for a successful Bobcat Build workday, check out Bobcat Build.

If you’re looking for a more relaxing way to end your semester, you should check out the student art exhibit in Alkek before it closes on May 2! Dozens of projects collected from students through a lengthy submission process are covering the walls and make for a stimulating experience for you and your friends. This installation is in the Alkek One Student Gallery and is free to view for students during the library’s business hours. This gallery is a collaboration with this year’s Common Experience theme, Dynamics, and focuses on forces of motion that impact our lives in many ways. Each art piece demonstrates movement, change, and growth in a physical and historical sense, creating a space for interesting conversations. You can end your art tour and finish you day of relaxation by chilling out by the Bobcat Alumnus Neftaly Torres’ new mural located in the LBJSC amphitheater!
